A few exciting changes at Christ the King...
A brand new roof!!
Altar floor refinishing...
Using money from the Fall Fair, we were able to have the entire altar area sanded and refinished, and the altar paraments (the cloths on the pulpit, lectern, and altar) have all been replaced.
Window Replacement, Stage 1...
Near the end of 2019, the church was given a generous bequest to replace the 54-year-old single-pane windows with modern, double-pane, highly-insulated glass. The first stage has been completed - all four windows in the sanctuary have been replaced. We await better weather for the replacement of the choir loft window. There will be a capital campaign to fundraise for custom stained glass inserts for the windows, so keep your eyes and ears open...
Thanksgiving Cookies and Posters for Newtown Schools and Police - COMPLETED!
Many thanks to all who joined us in the Fellowship Hall after service on Nov. 24 to decorate cookies and posters for delivery all over Newtown. The Newtown Police Department, Board of Education Office, and teachers at each of Newtown's seven schools love the treats and posters we make and deliver to them at major holidays every year.
Thanks to those who brought cookies and decoration supplies. It was a fun time for all ages and ability levels... Children entered their best cookie in the decorating contest... and the cookie-consumption rule (for every 10 cookies you decorate you get to eat 1) was followed by almost everyone!

Sunday School Service Drive
Many thanks to everyone who donated items for our Sunday School service drive - the animal care items will be delivered to Newtown Animal Shelter in March. |
Children's Sunday School
Our Children's Sunday School meets immediately after the Sunday Service in the blue meeting room. We have just finished making cards to include in our church's Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and decorating Thanksgiving cookies for Newtown's schools and Police. In January, we have begun a service project gathering donations for our local animal shelter. Look for donation boxes and informational posters all around the church! |

Winter Fellowship Schedule
Bring-a-Snack Fellowship Time: On the Second and Fourth Sundays of every month, everyone is invited to bring a snack to share and to join in a time of fellowship and mutual support. Come down to the Fellowship Hall immediately following the Sunday Service and get to know your fellow church members: find ways to support them, receive support that you need, or simply enjoy one another's company. The drinks and snacks are just a bonus! Winter 2020 Fellowship Hours January 12 and 26 ~ February 8 and 22 ~ March 14 and 28 |

Stewardship
Did You Know… Your tithes and offerings can be made through Electronic Fund Transfer? You don’t have to worry about forgetting your checks or how to donate when you are away, and it is entirely free both to you and the church because it is a program sponsored by the Synod. The Finance Committee encourages everyone to consider this option, and if you are comfortable, make use of it. You can contact the church office at [email protected] with any questions or look for further info in the narthex.
Estate Planning - Your hard work can support the ministry of the church even after your death. If you are interested in making a bequest to the congregation, please contact the church office at [email protected]. We can assist your Financial Planner or help put you in touch with one of our members who is certified to provide advice and assistance. |
Do you shop on Amazon? Did you know your purchases can support Christ the King? Simply shop at smile.amazon.com (instead of amazon.com - same owner, same products, different site). Select Christ the King Lutheran Church from the charitable organization list (be sure to choose CTK in Newtown from the list - see update below). There is no cost to you, and you use the same account you currently have on Amazon—all of your account settings are the same and will automatically transfer over to your new smile.amazon.com account. The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5 percent of eligible purchases. While this doesn’t sound like a lot of money, it will add up if we all participate! Simply go to smile.amazon.com to get started.

The suppers, hosted by the elders of the congregation, begin weekly at 6:00 p.m. Please sign up on the sheet in the church's center hallway for the suppers you will be able to attend. |
