Missions 2023

Current Projects
Fill the Ark (Heifer International)
Shop & Share (Faith Food Pantry)
Clothing Collection (St. Pauly Textiles)

Fill the Ark: Heifer International
Our Lenten Missions project is Heifer International’s Fill the Ark, a four week family devotional with a focus on gratitude for God’s blessings and an opportunity to generously share with others in need. A family giving box and calendar will be available February 26. Each week the calendar highlights a Scripture for reflection and daily offers a giving challenge to help families set and keep generosity goals. During Holy Week - Palm Sunday, March 25th, through Easter Sunday - we bring in our collection boxes. Based on the budget provided by our collective giving, CTK Sunday School children help choose the animal(s) or supplies to add to the CTK Ark. To view the catalog of animals and resources the children may choose, visit the Heifer International website. Your generosity and prayer support are greatly welcomed.

Shop & Share: Faith Food Pantry
Help fill the grocery cart in the church foyer with items for FAITH Food Pantry, a non-profit serving Newtown residents in need. Next time you shop, consider picking up an item or two to donate - a most-needed items list can be found on their website. (Please check expiration dates before donating.)

Clothing Collection: St. Pauly Textiles
In partnership with St. Pauly Textiles, a curbside clothing drop-off shed is available in the church parking lot. Used clothing and shoes, clean and in good condition, are requested. This year-round project helps get useable clothing to people in need of it, helps reduce textile waste in landfills, and supports CTK. As a host site, CTK receives a small fee that goes to the church budget. But most importantly, CTK may distribute any items from the shed locally - for example, shed items supplemented our Jericho Project coat/hat drive.) For more information about St. Pauly and acceptable items, click here.

Ongoing Outreach

Prayer Connection
We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Prayer is a mission of love. Central in our worship services and in our lives, we are called to pray regularly for our church, our families and loved ones, neighbors, and all people connected to us through our Missions activities. All members at Christ the King are invited to contact the church office to sign up for weekly emails and share together the prayer needs
and praises in our lives.

Benevolent Giving
Each month we feature a nonprofit organization chosen by the church elders to receive a donation. A portion of our yearly church budget is earmarked then divided evenly among the recipient groups. We encourage our members to get to know these groups and consider adding to this financial contribution or by direct support. For the schedule, with links to featured groups, please visit our Benevolent Giving page.

Christian Education
but in your hearts
honor Christ the Lord as holy,
always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason
for the hope that is in you.
1 Peter 3:15

Christian Education at Christ the King engages adults and children with the Gospel during Adult Bible Study, Confirmation, and Children's Sunday School classes.

We invite the Holy Spirit to guide our spiritual growth and deepen our understanding of God's love and grace. As a church community, and as individuals, we study Scripture, using the Lutheran catechisms as a roadmap.

Christian Education is an important mission, one that helps strengthen faith and prepares us to joyfully share the Good News of Christ.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:9-10
